REGGIE comes to us as a breath of fresh air from the hillsides of Régnié directly across the road from Matthieu Rochette’s house in the heart of the Beaujolais. For years we have discussed the idea with Matthieu of FOREGOING the Beaujolais Nouveau altogether to focus on a better, less stressful wine that folks could enjoy just as much as, hopefully more than, a Nouveau and with all the logistical madness 2021 brought about we were handed a perfect opportunity.
Produced from 40-year-old Gamay vines in Régnié, REGGIE is a very fruit-forward picnic wine we are loving right out of the gate! Matthieu wanted to keep the sulfur as low as possible and was able to do so thanks to a healthy harvest in 2021 and his familiarity with low-sulfur winemaking. (Domaine Rochette’s wines have been sub 50mg SO2 since 2016) We chose to label REGGIE as a Vin de France because of all of the reasons explained above. The goal is not really to pick REGGIE apart (he hates that btw) to try to find the typicity of terroir and all that. Pop and pour REGGIE as an apéritif or with just about any dish you can think of! He’s got versatility for days!
