Welcome to the latest installment of Wine Wednesdays with Adam! Each week we'll explore some of my favorite wines and what makes them stand out from the crowd. In honor of 4th of July, this week we’re taking a look at my favorite wines from right here in the US.
Recently I have found it a bit difficult to find domestic wines at good price points that drink well above expectations--even the wines listed here are a bit above the average price point. That being said, it doesn't mean they are not out there, it just means you have to search a little harder and be willing to venture out to find them. The four wines here are all completely different wines, but they all drink exceptionally well for the $20 price point. Enjoy!
Le P'tit Payson Jacks Hill Chardonnay
Rich White Wine | California
This bottling by Ian Brand always packs bang for the buck, but he really nailed it in the 2017 vintage. Clean and delicate aromas of Asian pear, lemon rind and edgy chalk lead into a racy, crisp and tightly wound palate. Flavors of grapefruit, nectarine, blanched almond and sea salt are delicious.
Haden Fig Pinot Noir
Light Red Wine | American Northwest
I can't say enough about how much I am enjoying this wine! 100% Pinot Noir showing great elegance and complexity. Light, lively and full of fresh cherry with great acidity.
Bear Flag Eureka Red Blend
Medium Red Wine | California
Blending the best bold California reds, Bear Flag Eureka! Red Blend delivers notes of ripe plum and boysenberry jam one moment and hints of graham crackers and milk chocolate the next. Abundant hints of complex spices and a tease of candied orange zest lend a hand in putting this plush red blend in a category of its own. Try it with some Tate's Bake Shop S'mores Cookies -- you won't be sorry.
$24.99 (reg. $29.99)
90+ Alexander Valley Cabernet
Rich Red Wine | California
A rich, full bodied cab with notes of dark fruits, vanilla, and cedar. Enjoy it with some Drunken Goat cheese and blackberry jam from The Market for a great pairing!
